magic in miniscule

i really can't believe it's the middle of may. what gets me more, though, is that we're still referring to klee's age in months and not years. and yet, i am acutely aware that this little soul has been in our life forever. it's crazy awesome and not a feeling that i ever want to get used to.

since so much of my time is spent processing the minute details of another human beings existence, i am propelled into a wonderful realm where i can stop to comprehend the beauty of small. of tiny. of, like, nearly microscopic: like her itty bitty toenail on her wee-est of toes.

and who can resist? little people clothes. don't these fun colours hanging out on the laundry line remind you a bit of tibetan prayer flags? and so, i had an unusually sweet moment smiling at their loveliness in our very usually dark & dank basement. enjoy.

the tiniest of gifts

*nb* this post was from last week. not sure why it didn't publish. i'm feeling much better. i have antibiotics to help with the sickness, and am trying out a new outlook to help with the stress.

what do you do when it feels like the world around is closing in a bit too tightly...when the need for a small escape seems so necessary for rejuvenation, but also a little frightening? that's how i've felt the past few days. it's why i can't quite find the words to write. it's why, i think, my body is giving out on me this week (and googling my symptoms just worries me more). and the weird dreams are back. all sorts of strangeness keeps me tossing and turning.

i know what's going on. stress is a huge culprit and too much of it has crept into my life and heart this week. and i have to forgive myself for  letting it consume more than it's share of my joy.

so, i'll just have to force myself say buh-buh to it. that's exactly what it deserves to hear.

on a happier and much cuter note!! klee (who is 8.5 months old now) is showing us the art of sharing, which amuses us to no end. it's an incredible delight to watch your baby realize how she can bring someone else (or something else, like our kitty cyan, or her favourite stuffed toys) pleasure through giving. i think that for myself, this newest development is teaching me all the more about the depth and goodness of the human spirit- how, not matter the pain and cruelty we may be capable of and even bestow on one another or the world we inhabit, there is a strong chance that we know better and have always known better.

maybe it's not enough to base my perspective on watching the sweet smile grace klee's face when she passes me sophie the giraffe...maybe her genorsity is more selfish than selfless, but i have to believe otherwise: to me, she is still part of a world that is not characterized by polarized concepts of good/bad and more/less.

she knows better.

and, she shows me what i am capable of knowing, and always have been.

love moves me

my first mother's day is nearing it's end. what a beautiful day it was. full of sunshine, good food, open hearts, and cherry blossom trees. thank you, papaG, for pulling the car over so i could take some of these shots. the illustrations, i pulled off the web, and the last image is a copy from a stunning book i received from a good friend a handful of years back called hiroshige one hundred views of edo.

a few weeks ago i came upon the artist, maki. she is amazing. you should check out what she did with her 1000 birds project to help people suffering in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in japan. i haven't stopped thinking about her generosity of spirit and gifts to the world. there is so much more i want to write but words seem too quaint at this moment. it's been a long day and my heart is both full and breaking at the same time...i feel so close to my loved ones and yet so far from a place where i know more than thoughts are needed to invoke change...

i would like to find and link to more artists doing work like this. if you know of any...please let me know!
